I don't know about you guys but the sudden drop in temperature in the last few days has me ready to unpack all of those stored away fuzzy blankets and prepare for a night full of Stranger Things Season 2! So for this informative blog I wanted to tell you more about those warm and cozy fuzzies out there!
So Plush!
Faux Fur was created in the the 1920's as a less expensive and more durable alternative to the real fur options on the market. Not only can faux fur be more durable and on the frugal side of luxury...it can easily be dyed in order to suit the perfect style for any space! Not to mention no animals are harmed in the process of making them! :)
Faux fur is composed of polymers - fibres that are made by a chemical reaction derived from coal, air, water, petroleum and limestone. These fibres are mixed with more natural fibres like silk and wool/mohair* to improve the look and feel of the finished material. During the final step of the faux fur process fibres are added that can be easily dyed which also happen to be a natural fire retardant!
*** Did you know that mohair is a type of wool that is less prickly and more likely to be an alternative to people with wool related allergies. ***
Don't Forget About Mongolians!!
Although a bit pricier, the mongolian fur is also a beautiful addition to your fur room repertoire! In Mongolia the Yaks, from which most of the fur is gathered, are able to walk freely and are not kept in any kind of enclosure. Every spring they naturally shed their thick coat in the fields making it a less harmful or better yet less disruptive process for the animals. A natural, safe & beautiful alternative!
Alright people it's time...pull out your plush and get cozy!
