February's Birthstone - Amethyst

In most recent years the Amethyst stone has reached new heights of "Trendiness" as it has become a popular stone for people interested in it's calming properties; but truth be told it has been a sought after stone since its discovery! The amethyst was thought to be one of the most precious gemstones until a large discovery that was made in Brazil. Upon its first discovery it was thought to be the "gem of fire" and as sought after as the Diamond!

Ancient Romans and Greeks often decorated their goblets with amethyst stones as they believed it had the ability to prevent drunkenness...maybe it's time we invest in a set of amethyst wine glass charms so everyone can enjoy as much wine as possible at the next dinner party! This stone was also known to control your evil thoughts or increase intelligence.

Today I think a lot of us gravitate to picturing either a yoga room filled with calming amethyst candle holders or the largest oversized purple gemstone you've ever seen on a vacation that you can almost sit inside! It's amazing how generational trends arise that alter our perception towards things! Although it may be a new hot spot to travel and get your next Instagram pic; this stone in today's generation is known to be a meditative and calming element which works in both the spiritual, emotional and physical planes to promote calm, balance and peace.

So as we fly through the shortest month of the year let's remember to take some time for ourselves to find the balance we all need in this crazy life. Take a moment to relax, draw a bath or unroll your yoga mat with the calming purple ambiance of a candle flickering from our new amethyst tealight holders!
