Pantone's Ultra Violet 2018

This luxurious colour has been chosen as the new trend for the upcoming year and I'm kind of excited about it! When I look at the colour I'm reminded of the Iris flower and how beautiful it looks with a mixture of blue and violet hues...one of my favourites! But do you ever wonder how it is that they decide on the upcoming colour trend for the year? It certainly crossed my mind when I started to write an informative blog and after a quick Google search I came across a blog written by Glamour Magazine with the perfect interview!

Glamour had the opportunity to interview Leatrice Eiseman, an executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, to ask her how exactly they choose the colour of the year. To which it was explained that a group of individuals, with varying backgrounds in education and line of work, travel the world and take part in cultural experiences that allow them to notice certain colour trends pop up in so many different ways. Although there are 4 main areas to which they notice colour trends start to arise.
1. Fashion - One of the first places they look to for colour trends is within fashion of course! Places like London, Paris and Milan where fashion trends take to the streets show us the up-coming trends that will translate to colour choices and home decor styles.
2. Films - What kind of colours are being used in the top movies playing today and what effects might be present in order to alter the way we see a colour can make an impact on how they choose what the trend may be for the year!
3. Cars - They often look to technology to determine a trend - such as cars - because they are light years ahead of us with the technology to manipulate a colour with effects! Like the paint you see on cars...which have a way of inspiring men and women alike to incorporate those bold colours in other ways!
4. Art - Of course when looking for colour inspiration you can't forget to have a look at art! One could even say our lives wouldn't be full without art and can be seen in almost every home in different ways!
With all of these things inspirational factors gathered through travel and experience, as well as documented through pictures and notes, the committee can get together and determine what they believe the up-coming trend for the year will be!
